When we tell you all that this has been our busiest season yet, we aren’t joking. We also wouldn’t have it any other way though! Katie and Bret’s fun day was the first of three weddings within two weekends. And this was a good way to kick off our wedding extravaganza. Just like many of our clients, Katie was no stranger to us. Emily and her went to high school together and actually took the same photography classes. So, this was super special for us to be a part of. Just like many brides and grooms planning their 2020 weddings, Katie and Bret’s plans had to change because of COVID. They actually had a very intimate ceremony last year, so they were technically already married on their big day. Anyone else think it’s super sweet that they planned their wedding day on their one year anniversary? That just makes us smile! Katie and Bret welcomed their first baby girl into the world in 2019 and it was so amazing to watch her get to experience this special moment in her parent’s lives. She has the cutest personality and the prettiest blue eyes we’ve ever seen. If you ask us, she was the life of the party!

Not many of you may know this, but we are proud dog parents. So we love when our clients want to include their fur babies too. That’s exactly what Katie and Bret did because they wanted a family photo with their dog, Hogan. He was dressed up for the occasion and was sporting a collar that matched Bret’s suit and tie. While Hogan was present and ready to go, unfortunately not all of their family was able to make it. Due to travel restrictions, Bret’s older brother / best man, was home in Australia. Katie, being the craftiest person that Emily knows, had a solution. They incorporated a lifesize cardboard cutout of him. Just see for yourself, it’s legit! Taking on the best man role normally means that you have to give a speech. Bret’s brother didn’t leave them hanging. He prerecorded one of the funniest speeches we have ever heard and if though he wasn’t actually present, he had the whole room laughing and in tears. It was pretty great. We loved watching Bret’s reaction especially because you can tell that those two are really close to one another.

Since we’re talking about their reception, we cannot forget about their epic cake cutting. Let us just preface this by saying, both of us would have cried if our cake cutting went down like this on our wedding days. But, shoutout to Katie and Bret for being so easygoing and fun. Even their DJ said that their cake cutting was the best cake SMASH he had ever seen. We’re pretty sure Bret had cake in his hair for the rest of the night, hopefully it tasted just as good! We think that this moment in their day is very telling of their relationship and their personalities. It was very obvious that they just wanted to have a good time and celebrate. They have so much love for each other and their daughter and it filled the whole room all night long.

We couldn’t end the night without taking them back outside for some sunset photos. This time of the night is always so different because all the stress of the ceremony and other important events of the day are completed. So, the bride and groom get to just take each other in and enjoy their first moments together. Not to mention, these are our favorites too because who doesn’t love a good sunset!?

Katie and Bret, we hope you continue to find the joy in every moment you share together. We are so thankful to have been a part of your big day and we wish you all the best!
