We could hear the pitter-patter of the rain against our umbrellas. The sun peeked through the clouds for only a moment as Lisa and Marko were running through traffic to beat the rain. Well, let’s paint that picture a little better. We found a sweet spot in the middle of busy Michigan Ave where these two lovebirds were surrounded by tulips. We had them brave the drizzle to twirl around and jog hand-in-hand toward the camera. They were all smiles. Watching them was like watching an old romance film. Their love is enticing to witness. That's when the drizzle turned into a light storm. So we gathered our things, listened to the rain hit our umbrellas, and made our way back to the Art Institute of Chicago because rainy days call for some museum hangs. We’d be lying if we said we weren’t a little disappointed by the forecast. We always tell our clients that the weather is the hardest part of planning a session. Trust us… if we could, we would have figured out how to control the forecast a long time ago! But we cannot, so for the fifth time that afternoon, we apologized to Lisa and Marko. They had originally planned for a different location on a different day. But Mother Nature had other plans. So one reschedule and a second rainy day later, we chose plan B. And that’s when Lisa surprised us…
“Honestly, I think we were meant to have our engagement pictures in the rain,” she giggled. “I realized that the location isn’t as important in the photos as us and our love,” she proudly stated as she smiled at Marko. She sweetly reassured us that they were just happy to be present in that moment, taking photos, and making memories with one another. And wow, we think Lisa’s statement is beautiful. Not only is it the perfect mindset to have about your memories, but it also says a lot about her and Marko’s personalities. It’s the perfect thought process because it’s a delightful reminder that things don’t always go according to plan. Many people, us included, strive for perfection in life. What better way to actually have fun and enjoy the moment of creating memories than to realize that the most important thing isn’t what you are wearing, what the weather is doing, or where you are. It’s who you are with and how you are together. And Lisa and Marko are simply happy together. They smile and laugh endlessly. They both have very carefree spirits and proved time and time again that they just go with the flow. It must be the adventurers in them. Traveling is good for the soul, right L&M?! We think they are perfect for one another and even more perfect together. One of their requests was to have a photo where we captured them lovingly looking at one another. And we are so glad that that was important to them. When Lisa and Marko look at each other, we see sparks fly. Their eyes meet and both of them grin from ear to ear. It’s truly one of the sweetest things and we could watch them interact with one another all day. They have such kind, loving hearts. And we can absolutely see how they bring out the best in each other. Being around Lisa and Marko instantly makes you feel happy. There’s no simpler way to describe them than that. Radiating happiness and joy.
Lisa and Marko, what can we say other than thank you?! Thank you for letting us play a tiny role in a big part of your story. Thank you for trusting us to create lasting memories for you even if we had to change our plans a couple of times. Thank you for just simply being you. You two are truly such delightful people to be around and even more wonderful to work with. Your love for one another shines so bright even in the rain. We hope you never stop making each other laugh, sharing your inside jokes, and perfectly doing life together. Cheers to your forever and more!
