Yee-haw! Saddle up, folks. You're about to embark on a wild ride through one of the most adorable cake smash sessions you've ever seen. Okay, maybe not a wild ride, but a true cowboy never backs down from a challenge, so just setting the scene. Picture this: a bale of hay. A pristine cowboy hat perched perfectly on display. Shiny new cowboy boots (don't worry, there definitely wasn't a snake in these boots). A trusty highland cow by his side. And a birthday cake all to himself. Sounds pretty perfect for a little cowboy don't you think? Mom, Dad, and myself were all hoping for a smooth ride on the frosty terrain. Maybe even a brave face dive into the sugary goodness or a handful of cake that left all the crumbs on his face for later. But, this little cowboy had other plans. Baby Tomuta remained remarkably uninterested in his cake. Enter the unlikely heroes of our cake smash saga. Goldfish crackers. With a little creativity, we managed to convince our pint-sized cowboy to indulge in a few bites of cake. And by a few bites of cake, I mean a handful of crackers covered in frosting. Hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, am I right?
All of this to say, that the best part of the session had nothing to do with cake at all. It was the moments leading up to the messy festivities that stole the show. Ms. Rachel was on TV. Mom was dishing out snacks. Dad was tossing balloons and making silly faces. And let me tell you that little man was in absolute heaven. I'll never forget the sound of his infectious laughter. He threw his head back, closed his eyes, and belly laughed like I've never seen before. He flashed his two-teefies, toothy grin that could melt even the coldest of hearts. And then, in a moment of pure sweetness, he looked at his dad with those big, puppy dog eyes and signed "more." More giggles, more balloons, more joy. He was having the best time and he didn't even realize why he was being showered with so much love, so much attention, and so many snacks. He had no clue that it was his birthday. But he definitely understood that he was having fun. It was such a beautiful moment to be a part of. Seeing the unbreakable bond between little man and his parents. Witnessing the love they have for their tiny human and how they'd do anything to make him smile. And seeing the joy and comfort he feels when he is with them. My heart is so full just thinking about the fact that I've been blessed to be a part of this family's journey from the beginning. Even more than that, this moment was an important reminder of the beauty that lies in life's simple pleasures. How something as small as a balloon could bring such overwhelming happiness to a child's face. It was a powerful reminder to slow down, savor the moment, and find joy in the little things. Which honestly, I'm not surprised that little man was so happy because he is truly a little ball of sunshine. If you need proof of this you should definitely check out the Tomuta's family session, you'll see exactly what I mean! He has a contagious smile. Inspiring amounts of energy. The smartest little mind. And the sweetest manners. I think baby Tomuta has a bright future ahead of him and will make one tough cowboy one day.
